The average person can only take in so much information in the day and staying up to date on national and international news will drive anyone insane. Look what happened in blahblah and also in blah blah! Even though it is a 12-hour drive to get to that place I need to know! I need to have thoughts on how people live half a country away! This information is important to stay on top of as a US citizen! Or a better solution. The day before you go vote you take a look at the president over their 4-year term and see what worked, what didn't and make a prediction if they will be a net positive for our collective the next term. This way you have an unbiased look at what was done or not done instead of reading each headline, make an immediate reaction to it (that will more than likely confirm your bias). Most people will just vote for "their party" so why even stay up to date in the first place? State and local news will affect your day to day life more than anything. You have a commute, you watch the traffic report. Going out this weekend to a concert? Check the weatherman (who is usually wrong). Go to the local city council and make your voice heard there. Start small. Make your county better than your city then your state. But that makes to much sense.
