Reading is the best content to consume. Books will give you a week or more of entertainment depending on how fast you want to knock it out. They are boring so they require disciple unlike having to listen to a podcast or reading tweets. You have to sit down and read. Most of the time you learn something, see a different way to look at the world, or become more empathetic. This is all great and really cant be done as effective with other forms of content. That being said, you are still consuming and consuming to much of anything is harmful. There are people whose entire personas are based around reading books from people. What’s the point of reading and wasting all that time if you don’t put it to good use. Self help books and weight loss books are flying off the shelves and yet depression and obesity increase YOY. Why didn’t the book help? Because most people don’t apply what they have learned. They consume the content and then look for what ever else they can consume that will take up their day. If you are reading you should also be writing. If you watch a lot of YouTube you should be making videos, Facebook/Twitter more posts! You would probably know what works and what doesn’t if you are on a platform long enough but people become paralyzed by inaction and then never try to create anything. Reading could really be looked as a bad think because you are putting someone else’s thoughts in your head instead of you trying to flesh out your own ideas and opinions. That’s another reason why I am so focused on these blogs because I was tired of just reading what other people have to say. Most writers are awful (NY TIMES, JOURNOS) and if they can make money doing that then maybe I can as well.
